CEBU CITY – Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia on Tuesday vowed to have more villages cleared of illegal drugs through inter-agency anti-drug campaign programs to be implemented with the private sector.

Garcia likewise encouraged more villages to vie for drug-clear status and get financial assistance from his office.

“We always have to strive for excellence, no less than just excellence. We have to make sure that our service is above par so that our constituents can feel that there is a barangay,” he said.

Garcia’s statement came after the Cebu City Office of Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) and the Cebu City Anti-drug Abuse Council (CADAC) on Monday extended a total of PHP2.2 million reward to 12 drug-cleared villages and the 10 best performing villages in terms of anti-drug campaigns, at PHP100,000 each.

COSAP executive director Jonah John Rodriguez said the 12 villages declared drug-cleared were Adlaon, Agsungot, Binaliw, Budlaaan, Cambinocot, Kalubihan, Kamagayan, Kasambagan, Mabini, Punta Prinsesa, Tabunan and Zapatera.

On the other hand, Adlaon, Punta Prinsesa, Agsungot, Kasambagan, Kamagayan, Kalubihan, Basak San Nicolas, Basak Pardo, Cambinocot and Tisa were adjudged as having the best Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC).

As of Tuesday, 32 barangays in Cebu City have already been declared drug-cleared. (PNA)
