LEGAZPI CITY – The Catanduanes provincial government is accepting applications for its scholarship grants for incoming and currently enrolled students pursuing Doctor of Medicine and Juris Doctor degrees.

In an interview on Friday, Camille Andrea Gianan, provincial supervising administrative officer, said a student could receive up to PHP150,000 for tuition and other school fees per semester and additional benefits under the Catanduanes Medicine and Law Scholarship and Return Service Program.

"This program aims to provide equal opportunities to Catandunganon, particularly those students who want to pursue legal education and medicine but lack financial aspects,” she said.

As part of the program, eligible students must provide one year of service to the local government of Catanduanes for each year they receive the scholarship grant.

"A one-year scholarship is like one year of service. It's like giving back to the community what you earned,” Gianan explained.

She said the provincial government has allocated PHP10 million for the program and has 15 students under the scholarship.

To be eligible, an aspirant must be a resident and registered voter of Catanduanes who wants to pursue studies in medicine or law. They must have no record of a conviction for any crime and are not recipients of any scholarship program.

The scholarship application deadline is July 1.

Interested parties are advised to contact the Catanduanes Medical and Law Scholarship Program or visit the Governor's Office Information Unit at the provincial capitol in Virac, Catanduanes. (PNA)
