CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan – A Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) member voluntarily surrendered to the Bulacan police on Tuesday.

In his statement on Wednesday, Col. Relly B. Arnedo, Bulacan police provincial director, identified the surrenderer as alias Ka Tony, 53, a tricycle driver, and member of Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan (RHB).

Ka Tony, according to Arnedo, was operating in the coastal areas of Bulacan, Pampanga, and Bataan. He was convinced to join the rebel group apparently to "attain equal rights and avoid social injustice".

Arnedo said a joint police and military team facilitated the surrender at Camp Alejo S. Santos in Malolos City.

The returnee turned over a caliber .38 revolver with serial number 66010, and three pieces of live ammunition of the same caliber. He is presently under the custody of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) for investigation and custodial debriefing.

"Bulacan Police is stern in its intensified campaign against insurgency and terrorism to ensure the provision of social services, employment opportunities, and an improved quality of life in communities that have been experiencing or are vulnerable to armed communist conflict," Arnedo said. (PNA)
