BUTUAN CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police from three regions in Mindanao jointly destroyed here Friday about PHP34.3 million worth of illegal drugs.
Authorities destroyed the illegal drugs seized from various operations in the Caraga (Region 13), Davao (Region 11), and Soccsksargen (Region 12) at the compound of Orgon Wood Industries, Inc. in this city.
“When the PDEA in Regions 11 and 12 received information that we were scheduled to facilitate the destruction of dangerous drugs, they made communications to include illegal drugs confiscated from their areas,” PDEA-13 information officer Dindo Abellanosa said in an interview.
The destroyed drugs weighed about 51,807.9 grams.
Abellanosa said the move forms part of PDEA’s efforts to destroy and dispose of seized dangerous drugs amid issues of recycling.
Of the illegal drugs destroyed, 4,209 grams were shabu with an estimated street value of PHP28.6 million, while 47,598.9 grams were dried marijuana items valued at PHP5.7 million.
The figures were broken down into 1,623 grams of shabu (PHP11 million) and 348 grams of marijuana (PHP41,780) from Caraga; 565.9 grams of shabu (PHP3.8 million) and 16,072 grams of marijuana (PHP1.9 million) from Soccsksargen; and 2,019.9 grams of shabu (PHP13.7 million) and 31,178 grams of marijuana (PHP3.7 million) from the Davao region.
