MANILA – The southwest monsoon or “habagat” affecting the western section of Mindanao will bring rains over parts of the island, the weather bureau said Friday.

This will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

Moderate to heavy rains in these areas could result in flash floods and landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 4 a.m. bulletin.

The rest of the country will continue to experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

"We expect that warm and fair weather will prevail over most parts of the country," forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said.

The temperature in Tuguegarao could peak at 36°C; in Metro Manila and Legazpi, at 34°C; and in Kalayaan Islands, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, and Laoag, at 33°C.

PAGASA, meanwhile, said the entire archipelago would continue to experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas. (PNA)
