TACLOBAN CITY – The 5th Peace and Quiet Culture and Arts Caravan gave young artists a platform to showcase their talents in creating artworks that advocate for environmental protection and conservation.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Eastern Visayas Regional Executive Director Lormelyn Claudio said the five-day caravan that ended Tuesday is also part of the World Environment Month celebration with the theme “Reviving Nature, Sustaining Life: Together We Restore.”

”Artists are sensitive, conscious, and passionate about anything and everything. We want to reach out to young artists because we want that passion to be focused on environmental protection and management,” Claudio said.

In the past years, the event was focused on encouraging youth to divert their attention to various forms of art to prevent them from being influenced by rebels and the use of illegal drugs.

It now widens its advocacy for environmental protection and conservation by partnering with the DENR.

For the 5th edition of the caravan, more than 40 artists from various parts of the region displayed their artwork at the art exhibit at Robinsons North Tacloban.

Among the new partners of the activity are the Leyte National High School Special Program for the Arts, ACLC Arts Appreciation, and the Palo Culture and Arts Organization, a group of young artists from Palo town who are into presenting community theater play performances.

Aside from the live theater performance, art exhibits and live sketching, poster making contests, dance contests, acoustic band competitions, siday competitions, and canvas bag painting are also part of the activities of the event.

The caravan was also held in collaboration with the 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, the National Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict, the Philippine National Police, Robinsons North Tacloban, Hands Off Our Children Movement Inc., Youth for Human Rights International Eastern Visayas, and the arts groups Istilo Poetry, Langkaw, Islaw, ArtPalo, and Kasugbong.
