CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways in Northern Mindanao (DPWH-10) is offering to construct the local government's PHP3.4 billion sewerage treatment facility.

In a statement on Tuesday, DPWH-10 project focal person Alexander Castro noted that the city is one of the beneficiaries of the project’s feasibility study, which will be done in three phases.

"Our office is in coordination with the city government and the consultants, and there’s a need to update the 2018 feasibility study conducted on the project," he said.

Castro said the construction of the facility would be for a period of 15 to 16 years.

He said the city government could seek subsidies for the project by enacting a local sanitation ordinance and updating the feasibility study.

City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office chief Armen Cuenca said the urgency of building the sewerage facility in Barangay Bonbon is mandated under Republic Act 9275 or the Clean Water Act.

Cuenca further said he met with representatives of Woodfields Consultants Inc., who agreed to update the feasibility study for the sewerage project. (PNA)
