MANILA – Thailand's Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa will go on an official visit in the country on July 4, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Monday.

The DFA said the visit is the first for Sangiampongsa since he assumed his position on May 3.

DFA Secretary Enrique Manalo and Maris are expected to discuss bilateral areas of cooperation, including the proposed convening of the 6th Meeting of the Philippines-Thailand Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation.

They will also discuss regional and international issues of common concern, including the situation in the South China Sea, Myanmar, and Gaza.

The Philippines and Thailand are celebrating their 75th anniversary of bilateral relations this year. The bilateral relations were established through the signing of a Treaty of Friendship in 1949.

Meanwhile, Manalo held a bilateral meeting with visiting Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan on July 1.

This is Hasan’s first visit to the Philippines since he assumed office in December last year.

The visit followed the successful state visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to Malaysia in July 2023 and the official visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim in March 2023.

Manalo and Hasan noted the progress in several memoranda of understanding (MOU) on sports, cultural cooperation, tourism, higher education and on the development of the Halal Industry.

Both sides committed to conclude negotiations on these MOUs. (PNA)
