CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – A raid by operatives of the Rizal Provincial Police Office (RPPO) on an illegal gambling operation in Taytay town shortly before dawn on Thursday yielded a firearm and illicit substances.

RPPO director Col. Felipe Maraggun told reporters the operation was conducted in Barangay San Juan, where lawmen interrupted an ongoing game of Cara y Cruz (heads or tails).

He said six participants in the illegal gambling activity were arrested and betting money was confiscated as evidence.

However, Maraggun said the police action yielded more than just gambling violations, as authorities uncovered a stash of illegal substances and a firearm.

Police also discovered four plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, valued at approximately PHP102,000, along with a loaded .38-caliber revolver on two individuals.

"This is not just about illegal gambling... it's a significant bust involving narcotics and firearms, escalating the charges against the perpetrators," Maraggun said.

He reiterated the Rizal police’s commitment to maintaining public safety, saying, "we will relentlessly pursue criminal elements to ensure the safety and security of every Rizalenyo."

The arrested individuals were detained at the Taytay Police Custodial Facility awaiting formal charges as authorities prepare their cases for court. (PNA)
