MANILA – Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command chief Rear Admiral Alfonso Torres Jr. and three other ranking officials were promoted to the next higher rank.

AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. led the donning or ranks rites at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Thursday, according to a news release from the military.

Aside from Torres who was promoted to Vice Admiral, the other promoted officials were Marine Maj. Gen. Jimmy Larida, AFP deputy chief of staff for operations; Commodore Constancio Arturo Reyes Jr. Wescom deputy commander for external defense operations; and Wescom deputy commander for internal defense Brig. Gen. Roman Dioso.

Wescom is the unified command responsible for safeguarding the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Meanwhile, Brawner told the newly-promoted officials that greater responsibilities and expectations come with higher ranks in the military.

"Be reminded that you are now entrusted with the well-being of your subordinates and the success of our mission, especially in the WPS, in support of our territorial defense operations while upholding our core values of honor, service, and patriotism," he added. (PNA)
