ILOILO CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Iloilo is now preparing for the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) and the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) that will run from July 15 until Sept. 16.

“This is a large-scale undertaking covering the province and city of Iloilo. However, for Iloilo City, the local government will fund the conduct of the CBMS,” said PSA Iloilo Provincial Statistical Office OIC Supervising Statistical Specialist Ma. Goretti M. Novilla on Tuesday.

The undertaking aims to update the population inventory, ensure efficient CBMS, update the mid-decade population inventory, and enhance social registries to aid in evidence-based planning and program implementation.

PSA led by Regional Statistical Services Office 6 Officer-in-Charge Nelida C. Amolar and Novilla signed a memorandum of agreement with the Iloilo City Government represented by Mayor Jerry Treñas and Data Assessment and System Management Office (DASMO) acting Department Head Atty. Fydah Marie B. Sabando on June 24.

“Supposedly, our census is in 2025. But now we will have it in July together with the CBMS, our source of data in computing the poverty situation in an area using the multi-dimension poverty indicators,” said Novilla in an interview.

The city government will assist in data collection, ensure compliance with protocols, and provide necessary resources and support. All 180 barangays will undergo household data collection and geotagging to ensure updated and accurate data to target beneficiaries for social protection programs, said the city government statement on Tuesday.
