MANILA – Media personnel and content creators could win as much as PHP100,000 in the Department of Science and Technology's Bantog Awards for Media and Communication.

"We do the awards to honor exceptional stories that showcase the benefits of science and technology (S&T) to the public," DOST-Science and Information Institute's information officer Joy Lazcano said in a televised briefing Thursday.

Increasing the public's knowledge on S&T is crucial in empowering them in decision-making, Lazcano said.

He said the awards started as Bantog Awards Science for the People in 2018, and this is the second time that the DOST is conducting the same initiative.

Media personnel, correspondents and content creators could participate in the following categories: Best S&T News (print and online, and radio); Best S&T Feature (online and print); Best Editorial/Opinion (online and print) – with the winner in each category getting PHP50,000 and a trophy.

For audio and visual/video, the DOST will choose the Best Investigative Story; Best Editorial/Opinion; and Best S&T News –each winning PHP100,000 and a trophy.

Lazcano said interested individuals could visit the DOST's website and Facebook page to check the other details.

He said entries will be accepted until Aug. 9. (PNA)
