MANILA – Police authorities on Tuesday arrested two suspects in the kidnapping of a Chinese national in Taguig City.

In a report, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Group and the Taguig City Police Station (TCPS) nabbed Erwin Angeles and Richard Mendoza along Masipag St., Barangay Sta. Ana at around 6:30 a.m.

The suspects’ arrest came following the complaint of their victim identified as Honsen Liu, 19.

Investigation showed that the victim met an online chat mate known as "Izzy" on Monday and went to an apartment in Barangay Sta. Ana, where the suspects were waiting.

The two suspects blindfolded and tied the victim’s hands upon arriving at the place.

The suspects negotiated a ransom of PHP5 million with the victim's father via messaging app WeChat but later agreed to lower the amount to PHP1.1 million.

The suspects instructed the victim's father to bring the ransom to a mall at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

After getting the ransom, the suspects dropped off the victim somewhere in Angono, Rizal. One of the suspects returned to the victim his mobile phone before abandoning him.

The victim managed to return to his house in Manila and sought help from the Manila Police District, which then turned over the case to the TCPS.

Police seized from the suspects during the operation a cal.38-caliber pistol with live ammunition.

The suspects are now detained at the TCPS and would face charges of kidnapping for ransom. (PNA)
