TACLOBAN CITY – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has printed 83,817 driver’s license cards to address the 104,515 backlogs in plastic-printed driver’s licenses in six Eastern Visayas provinces.

LTO-Eastern Visayas regional director Ledwino Macariola said the LTO district offices in the region have received enough plastic license cards to replace paper-printed licenses issued in 2023 until early 2024.

“There was a schedule set for printing plastic cards, but we don’t follow it since some drivers are not available. We just must prioritize those who show up in our offices since clients have already paid for it,” Macariola told the Philippine News Agency on Thursday.

The renewal schedule was aimed at ensuring the orderly processing and distribution of plastic-printed plastic cards in all LTO offices across the country.

The LTO field office here received 111,494 plastic cards in early April for distribution in 13 LTO district offices in the region.

Nationwide, the LTO started the issuance of actual plastic cards to replace paper-printed driver’s licenses on April 15.

The agency earlier reported that the supply of driver’s license cards has normalized following the lifting of an injunction order that halted the delivery of 5.2 million cards nationwide last year. (PNA)
