CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Laguna Provincial Police Office (LPPO) on Tuesday announced the apprehension of two alleged rapists who are listed among the Calabarzon region’s “most wanted” fugitives.

Col. Gauvin Mel Unos, LPPO acting director, told reporters that both suspects were arrested on Monday in separate manhunt operations conducted in this city and in Cabuyao town.

The first suspect, identified only as “Earvin”, was arrested in Barangay Real here on allegations of qualified rape.

Bail was set at PHP200,000 for his temporary liberty.

The second suspect, identified only as “John,” was apprehended in Barangay Sala in Cabuyao on a standing warrant for statutory rape.

No bail was recommended for the alleged child rapist.

"We remain committed to our duty of pursuing those who evade the law, ensuring justice for the victims. Rest assured, the Laguna PNP will continue to fulfill its sworn duty," the provincial police chief said during a briefing.

Meanwhile, Unos also reported that police operatives apprehended a total of 269 individuals during a weeklong series of operations from May 6 to 12.

Of those arrested, 71 were allegedly involved in illegal drugs while 167 were rounded up for their alleged participation in illegal gambling operations in the province.

The rest were arrested for various other offenses, said Unos.

He reported that during the seven-day dragnet, the LPPO managed to confiscate some 173.73 grams of “shabu,” with a street value of some PHP1.2 million. (PNA)
