TACLOBAN CITY – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) regional office here has issued 757 geohazard certifications last year as a requirement in the implementation of government projects.

MGB Eastern Visayas regional director Carlos Tayag said they have been issuing geohazard certificates to ensure the safety of government projects and mitigate the impact of natural disasters.

“The certificate is required for the proponents of all multi-year programs, activities, and projects being implemented by national government agencies and state universities and colleges. This is limited to the susceptibility of the proposed site to geologic hazards such as rain-induced landslide and flooding, coastal and riverbank erosion, and karstic subsidence,” Tayag said in an interview Monday.

Of the 757 certificates, 577 were issued in Leyte province, 65 in Eastern Samar, 62 in Samar, 44 in Southern Leyte, and nine in Biliran province.

The number of issued certificates is lower than the 1,272 documents issued in 2021 during the peak of the Build, Build, Build Program implementation.

Before securing the certificate, implementors are required to submit the location map, google image showing the location, site photos with descriptions, sketch plan, drainage plan, and site development plan. (PNA)
