MANILA – The website of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) will be down for four hours on Sunday due to scheduled maintenance works.

The Philippine Statistics Authority advisory on Friday night said the PhilSys Step 1 registration process will be unavailable from 11:59 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday.

Other inquiries may be made through email address [email protected] or hotline 1388.

As of Dec. 11, 2021, a total of 50,014,382 Filipinos have finished the Step 2 biometrics registration -- iris scan, fingerprints, and front-facing photograph after the validation of demographic data.

Some registrants also opened bank accounts at Land Bank of the Philippines kiosks in registration centers, with their registration stubs and valid identification cards or documents.

Signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrolment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.

It will also boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present the PhilID during transactions. (PNA)
