698 railway workers recover from Covid-19

MANILA – A total of 698 train workers of the four rail services in Metro Manila have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), according to data from the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Of 8,272 total employees, 6,604 or 79.84 percent have been tested, according to a status update on Friday.

To date, there are still 449 active cases spread out at the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), and the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

All 1,181 employees of LRT-1 have been tested for Covid-19, with 19 active cases and 174 recoveries.

At LRT-2, 1,942 out of its 1,978 workers have been tested, with 129 active cases and 208 recoveries.

At MRT-3, 2,191 out of its 3,284 workers have been tested, with 143 active cases and 221 recoveries.

At PNR, 1,290 out of its 1,829 workers have been tested, with 158 active cases and 95 recoveries.

Following the resumption of operations after the annual Holy Week maintenance shutdown, DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade ordered the mass testing of all railway workers as part of efforts to avoid transmission of Covid-19 in public transportation. (PNA)
