KIDAPAWAN CITY--Health authorities here are targeting to vaccinate some 18,000 children as it kicked-off Monday the simultaneous Oral Polio Vaccination (OPV) program, in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH).

The City Health Office said the campaign, dubbed as ‘Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio”, aims to immunize children 0-59 months in 38 barangays until August 2, 2020.

Mayor Joseph Evangelista said he has directed barangay officials, health workers, and nurses to initiate a house-to-house campaign to ensure a high OPV turn out.

“I have instructed our counterparts to further penetrate interior to ensure a high percentage of OPV completion”, Evangelista said over a local radio station.

The team was also advised to execute minimum health standards, particularly the wearing of face shields and masks to avoid any coronavirus disease 2019 transmission while the city remains under the modified community quarantine.

The OPV program aims to deter polio cases across the country following recent cases recorded in some regions. (PNA)
