Zamboanga Peninsula Covid-19 cases spike to 220

ZAMBOANGA CITY--The number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the Zamboanga Peninsula has increased to 220, as health authorities logged 12 new cases on Tuesday.

The Department of Health (DOH) regional office stated in its situational report that two new cases were recorded here while the 10 other cases in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.

The DOH, citing a report from the Zamboanga del Sur Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), said that nine of the 10 new cases in the province are locally stranded individuals (LSIs) while the remaining one is a returning overseas Filipino worker (OFW).

The IPHO identified them and from where they came from as ZDS9, female, 57 years old, of Tawagan Norte, Labangan town (who arrived from Cebu City); ZDS10: male, 61 years old, Tawagan Norte, Labangan (from Cebu City); ZDS11: male, 42 years old, Panagaan, Mahayag (from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia); ZDS12: female, 38 years old, Limason; Vincenzo Sagun (from Quezon City);

ZDS13: Male, 24 years old, of Balongating, Guipos (from Pasay City); ZDS14: male, 20 years old, San Jose, Aurora (from Toledo City, Cebu); ZDS15: female, 37 years old, Sto. Nino, Tukuran (from Cebu City); ZDS16: male, 25 years old, Kabuhi, Mahayag (from Quezon City); ZDS17: male, 23 years old, San Francisco, Tabina (from Cebu City); and ZDS18: male, 36 years old, Don Jose, Dinas (from Cebu City).

Jeesrel Himang, Zamboanga del Sur provincial information officer, said Wednesday that some of the patients were placed in the isolation centers in their respective municipalities while some at the provincial isolation facility in Dao, Pagadian City, the capital of the province.

With the 10 new cases, the IPHO said that Zamboanga del Sur has a total of 18 cases. Of the total, 13 are active cases while five have recovered and discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, the local Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Covid-19 said the two new cases in this city were identified as ZC194 and ZC195.

The task force said that ZC194 is a 57-year old female from Barangay Calarian. She is a dialysis patient confined at the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) and the sister of ZC193, a 54-year-old female from Barangay San Roque.

The local IATF said that ZC195 is a 10-year old female and an LSI from Cebu City. She arrived in this city last May 31 via a sweeper flight. She is the sister of ZC184, a 12-year-old male, also an LSI.

Patient ZC195 is asymptomatic and is admitted at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU)-Lantaka Isolation facility, according to the task force.

The DOH said that only Isabela City has zero Covid-19 case in the region. The other provinces like Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay have five and two confirmed cases, respectively.

The DOH said that there are 3,200 suspect cases in the entire region and these are as follows: Zamboanga City, 2,497; Zamboanga del Sur, 234; Zamboanga del Norte, 216; Zamboanga Sibugay, 194; and, Isabela City, 59.

The DOH said that the entire region has recorded zero probable cases.

There are recorded 153 recoveries including 148 in this city and five in Zamboanga del Sur. (PNA)
