SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Antique is urging consumers to take advantage of the discounts being offered by commercial establishments in celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month this October.

The three-day "In-store Diskwento” with 15 participating retail stores in the province kicked off Tuesday.

DTI Antique information officer Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal, in an interview Tuesday, said participating retail stores are mostly in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique’s capital town.

“Avail of the discounts now so you (consumers) could get the best value of your money,” she said.

Cardinal said the participating stores are engaged in selling appliances, school supplies, ready-to-wear clothes and many other items that the consumers would like to buy.

The participating stores are Unitop General Merchandise, Handyman, LVS Commercial, Gaisano Grand Mall of Antique, National Book Store, Ivory Candle, JS Trading, Corona Top and Shop Store, San Jose City Square and Penshoppe.

DTI’s five Bagwis Awardees -- V-Brent’s Enterprises, EDE Engineering Enterprise, Gian’s Enterprises, Du Ek Sam, Inc., and EMCOR, Inc. -- are also joining.

These stores were given Bagwis Awards by the DTI for they uphold the rights of consumers while practicing responsible business.

The stores offer discounts varying from 5 to 10 percent depending on their mechanics.

To raise awareness about the "In-store Diskwento", DTI conducted a public mobile announcement around San Jose de Buenavista since Tuesday morning.

Cardinal said while this year’s event is shorter when compared with last year’s five days, yet more stores are joining the 2019 event.

“In 2018, there were only 12 stores that participated in the Diskwento,” she said. (PNA)
