SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The “Balik Eskwela Diskwento” initiative of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has generated total sales of PHP4.766 million in Antique province.

The Balik Eskwela Diskwento was held from May 31 to June 4 to provide consumers, especially students, an opportunity to buy school supplies and uniforms at discounted prices in time for the opening of classes on June 3, said Lynna Joy Cardinal, information officer of DTI-Antique.

“During the 'Balik Eskwela Diskwento', there were more consumers who were able to avail of the discounts provided by the stores,” Cardinal said.

Based on the consolidated report from 16 participating stores, 9,165 consumers came to buy notebooks, paper, bags, school uniforms, and jogging pants, generating a whopping PHP4.76 million in sales, compared to last year’s 7,077 customers and PHP3.042 million in sales.

Cardinal attributed the consumers’ positive response to Balik Eskwela to the active support of the media in informing the public about their activity.

“Through the media, there were a lot of consumers who became aware of the Balik Eskwela Diskwento,” she said.

The establishment of the "Go Negosyo Centers" in all 18 towns of the province last year also helped consumers access information, such as the schedule of the Balik Eskwela, and store owners on how they would be able to participate, Cardinal said.

“This year, there were 16 stores that participated, with LMT Print and the National Book Store joining,” she added. Only 14 stores participated last year. (PNA)
