BACOLOD CITY -- The Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Negros Occidental will hold the simultaneous launch of the 2019 Brigada Eskwela in two venues on May 17.

In the north, the kick-off event will be held at the Lopez Jaena National High School in Murcia town while in the south, it will be hosted by the Ilog Elementary School in Ilog town.

Memorandum 135 signed by Administrative Office V Rossana Anasarias, in-charge of division, enjoined district supervisors, education program supervisors, and sections to attend the division launch at their preferred venue.

The theme of the 2019 Brigada Eskwela, set on May 20-25, is “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Paaralan”.

“This National Maintenance Week aims to bring together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, effort and resources to prepare public school facilities for the opening of the school year in June,” Anasarias said.

Part of the annual activity is the selection of the Brigada Eskwela Best Implementing School. The guidelines and criteria are provided in DepEd Memorandum 36, series of 2019.

In Negros Occidental, a division-wide search for the 2019 Brigada Eskwela jingle is also being held. The winning entry will be used as the official jingle during the launch.

Meanwhile, the national kick-off program and caravan of the 16th Brigada Eskwela will be held at the Alfonso Central Elementary School in Cavite on May 16.

Education Undersecretary Tonisito Umali said this year’s theme reflects the importance of the community in making schools the best place for learners to acquire the values and competencies they need to contribute in nation-building.

Established in 2003, Brigada Eskwela has generated a total of PHP4.66 billion worth of resources and its volunteers nationwide doubled from 11 million in 2017 to 22 million in 2018. (PNA)
