SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The release of the wages of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) workers in Antique is ongoing, an official of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Friday.
Virginia Misajon, Labor and Employment Officer III of DOLE Antique provincial office, said in an interview the release of salaries will benefit around 16,000 TUPAD workers in the province.
“DOLE has started to release the wages of the TUPAD workers last May 9,” she said.
She added that TUPAD workers of the towns of Belison, Sebaste and Caluya received their wages for their first 15 days of work.
“We hope to finish releasing the TUPAD wages throughout the province within two weeks- time,” Misajon said.
She said Belison has 1,080 TUPAD workers, Sebaste has 633, and Caluya has 236.
The TUPAD workers in these municipalities were the first to get their salaries, considering that they were also the first to submit their daily time record, accomplishment report, and picture of the worker or beneficiary.
Misajon said these TUPAD workers received their wages through Palawan Pawnshop, which won the bidding that the DOLE Regional Office 6 had put up for the TUPAD wages.
Each TUPAD worker is paid PHP365 per day, which is the minimum salary wage in Antique province.
The DOLE is able to release the payment of the wages for the TUPAD workers because of the issuance of an exemption from the provision of Section 261 (G) of the Omnibus Election Code. (PNA)
