BAGUIO CITY -- Alarmed by the ground cracks that abound one of Baguio’s highly visited tourist attractions, the city council has approved the resolution filed by Councilor Elmer Datuin pushing for the conduct of a geohazard assessment of the Mines View Park.

"The residents were alarmed upon observing ground cracks that are visible within Mines View Park and are worried that these may pose danger to residents, park goers and business establishments operating within and around the area," Datuin said at the sidelines of the regular council session Monday.

Datuin said the council passed the resolution last January 14 which called on the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB), Department of Works and Highways (DPWH), and the City Engineering Office (CEO) to immediately conduct a joint geo-technical investigation at Mines View Park.

A formal report on the geo-technical assessment must be submitted to the city council to allow it to immediately pass corrective measures.

Meanwhile, Aileen Refuerzo, Public Information Office chief, said the conduct of study on the soil condition of the park is aimed at preventing possible widespread damage on the area. (PNA)
