LEGAZPI CITY -- Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde has allayed fears that the Batocabe murder case would end up in a “whitewash.”

He said that this would not happen as he has directed the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CDIG) chief to directly oversee the investigation of the case.

The PNP chief has assured the public that there would be no “whitewash” as measures had been put in place to determine the identities of the killers and the mastermind behind the murder of Batocabe.

The investigation would be supervised by the CIDG while the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) would conduct a parallel probe of the case.

“I assure you there would be no whitewash or a fall guy as we are all determined to solve this case,” he said.

Albayalde told the media that the incident that took place in Barangay Burgos, where Batocabe was killed, could not have happened as probers have discovered lapses in police coordination.

He said that if Batocabe or his security officer had only coordinated with the PNP regarding their event at Barangay Burgos the incident could have been prevented.

Albayalde said he has issued an order to all police units that when a big event occurs and where a big crowd is involved, police should be ready to secure the area.

He said the policy is aimed not to secure the person holding an event but rather to keep the crowd safe from any harm. (PNA)
