DAVAO CITY -- This city continues to record zero firecracker-related incident since an ordinance banning pyrotechnic devices was enacted in 2001.
It was not a “silent night” for Dabawenyos, however, as they celebrated Christmas the traditional way: playing loud music and honking car horns at the the stroke of midnight on the 24th.
Records of the Police Regional Office show zero incident of stray bullet, indiscriminate firing, fire or burning incident of firecracker explosion origin.
In Barangay Matiao in Mati, Davao Oriental, however, a suspect who brought in imported firecrackers eluded arrest during a police operation on Tuesday afternoon.
Chief Insp. Jason Baria said the police were able to seize eight boxes of Bajiet firecrackers that are made in Thailand; four boxes of small rockets made in China; one box of unidentified firecracker also from China, and seven cellophanes of small rockets from the same foreign country.
Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director, in a text message to the Philippine News Agency, also said there was no untoward incident reported during the past three days.
"We have negative untoward incident - also firecracker or firearms discharged incident in the whole City of Davao," he said.
"Indeed, we celebrated a 'Silent Night' and 'Holy Night' in the City where indeed life is here," Tagum added. (PNA)
