BACOLOD CITY -- A total of 28 farmers in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental town have been identified as potential beneficiaries of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.

Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Gloria Caňonero, in a statement on Thursday, said the farmers signed an undertaking and took an oath to signify that they have qualified for the screening process.
The signing of the application to purchase, farmer’s undertaking, and the oath-taking was held at the Municipal Trial Court in Binalbagan on Wednesday.

The potential agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) included 16 farmers under the landholdings, which were formerly owned by Eric Matthew Yulo in Barangay San Jose covering 3.45 hectares, and 12 assigned to the 14-hectare property in Barangay Bagroy previously owned by Cecilia Clotilde Montilla-Leonardia.

Judge Leticia Trigue, who administered the farmers’ oath of office, discussed with the potential beneficiaries the content of their undertaking.

Trigue encouraged the farmers to work hard and make their land more productive, even as she warned them not to engage in illegal activities, such as the sale and lease of lands, which are grounds for disqualification from the program. (PNA)
