Carnap suspect shot dead in Cotabato

COTABATO CITY – Cops shot dead a car theft suspect here after attempting to shoot at patrolling policemen in Barangay Rosary Heights 12 here on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Supt. Rolly Octavio, city police director, identified the slain suspect as Abdul Ambolinog, of Purok Tuka-intan, Barangay Poblacion 1, this city.

He said members of the city police mobile force were on a patrol car checking the village environs when they chanced upon the motorcycle-riding suspect appearing uneasy by the side of the road in Purok Santan past 1 p.m.

When police officers approached him to ask about his motorcycle having no plate number, the suspect pulled out a .38-caliber pistol and aimed it at lawmen.

“Fortunately, the suspect’s gun jammed despite his several attempts to fire at the policemen,” Octavio said.

He said the cops countered by firing back at the suspect, fatally hitting him in the chest and abdomen.

Police probers later found out that the suspect had been linked to a string of carnapping and stickup incidents in the city.

According to local police records, the suspect was also the 65th drug surrenderer from Barangay Poblacion 1 earlier this year. (PNA)
