MANILA -- An octogenarian woman and two others perished in a fire that destroyed a commercial building in Sitio Damong Maliit, Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon, Novaliches, Quezon City early Thursday morning.
Senior Fire Officer 4 Romar C. Carandan Sr., Novaliches Fire Station commander, identified the fatalities as Arcenia Amongo, 80; Jose Ilalim, 42; and John Daniel Arciaga, 5 years old.
Carandan said they were trapped inside a room in the burned SM Francisco Arcade located at 118 Damong Maliit-Llano Road, Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon, Novaliches.
According to Fire Senior Insp. Leroy Enriquez, the fire broke out at 2:51 a.m. and reached third alarm before it was placed under control at 3:59 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Enriquez said, adding that damage to property was estimated at PHP1 million.
The commercial building is owned by businessman Von Francisco, 42, of Pulilan, Bulacan. (PNA)
