SAN MARCELINO, Zambales -- Several guns and ammunition were confiscated from a barangay captain after government security operatives swooped down on his house in Barangay Aglao here on Tuesday.
Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Roline Ginez M. Jabalde of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 74, joint elements from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Provincial Force Unit (CIDG PFU)-Zambales, San Marcelino Police, Provincial Intelligence Branch-Zambles, and 2nd Maneuver Provincial Mobile Force Company, raided the house of Eduardo G. Lopes Sr., 61, at around 8:30 a.m.
Senior Insp. Teddy R. Padauan, San Marcelino chief of police, on Wednesday said they enforced the search warrant issued last January 28 after surveillance reports turned out positive that the suspect owns several unlicensed firearms.
Recovered from the village official’s possession were one .45-caliber Colt pistol along with six magazines and live ammunition; one .25-caliber pistol and a magazine; one 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition; one firearm of undetermined caliber; and other assorted live ammunitions for caliber .22 Magnum, .25, .32, .38, 9mm firearms and five long magazines for M16 rifle.
Lopes was brought to the San Marcelino Municipal Police Station, along with the confiscated evidence for proper documentation and disposition.
He is now facing a case for violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act of 2013. (PNA)
